Per què ASTRUCUS?
ASTRUCUS és un vocable llatí que significa “afortunat”, “sortós”. De la mateixa arrel tenim els mots “malastrugança” (mal averany) o “malastruc” (persona o objecte que porta mala sort)
Durant l’alta edat mitjana, Astruc era un nom propi força corrent en la societat catalana, especialment entre la comunitat jueva. De nom propi va passar, com tants altres noms propis, a nom de família o cognom. A partir del fenomen de la neutralització de les vocals àtones en el català central, la A inicial va anar perdent força fins a esdevenir vocal neutra. En la grafia dels segles XIV i XV, trobem aquest cognom alternant entre A, S i E inicials. Pel què fa a la H final darrera la C, no és més que un arcaisme residual del català antic.
Així doncs, la seqüència gràfica del meu afortunat cognom seria: Astrucus – Astruc – Astruch – Struch – Estruch. Ves quina sort!
